The Sharks have confirmed that Springbok scrumhalf Grant Williams is leaving at the end of the season.
The fleet-footed No 9, whose contract expires in June, will join a Japanese club.
Williams’ departure comes at a crucial time for the Sharks, who are in the middle of a rebuilding phase under new management.
The dynamic scrumhalf has been a key figure in their system, and his exit leaves a significant gap – one that is expected to be filled by Jaden Hendrikse and Ross Braude going forward.

Importantly, the move won’t impact his standing with the Springboks as coach Rassie Erasmus has consistently shown a willingness to select players based in Japan and Europe.
The 29-year-old was one of the Boks’ most trusted scrumhalves over the past year, featuring in 11 of their 14 Tests.

Reports earlier this year indicated that Williams had already travelled to Japan to familiarise himself with the environment ahead of the switch.
