Hurricanes fullback Jordie Barrett – playing in his first match of Super Rugby Aotearoa – was instrumental in seeing his side to another victory over the Chiefs in Hamilton this season.
The 23-year-old assisted both of Kobus van Wyk’s tries before also slotting two conversions from three attempts. Barrett, who could be competing with the impressive Will Jordan, Damian McKenzie and even older brother Beauden for an All Blacks starting berth, made 56 running metres from 11 carries, while also beating three defenders and making one clean break. Barrett successfully completed eight of his nine attempted tackles and contributed 10 of his team’s 25 points on the day, with a further two penalties goals.
