Varsity Cup CEO Duitser Bosman has announced that he will leave his position at the end of July to pursue personal interests.
Bosman, one of the founding members of the Varsity Cup in 2007, was in charge of the competition from its beginning with eight university rugby teams in 2008, and as the competition expanded to include the Varsity Shield (2011) and Young Guns (2012) competitions.
Earlier this year, a schools component was added to the business, with competitions initially in athletics, netball and sevens rugby.
Bosman said he was proud of his achievements in changing sport at a tertiary level.
‘Working on the Varsity Cup and later Varsity Sport and School Sport changed my life and proved to me what wonderful potential we have in this country.
‘I believe the company is on the brink of something big with the addition of School Sport to the portfolio, and hope that this potential can be materialised effectively in the near future.
‘I am looking forward to new opportunities and new challenges in life but will always regard the time with universities and schools as some of the best in my working life,’ Bosman added.
