New Zealand Rugby and Rugby Australia have confirmed the final schedule for the upcoming Trans-Tasman competition with the proposed ‘Super Round’ of fixtures officially scrapped.
The finalisation of the Super Rugby trans-Tasman draw includes additional home matches for the Blues, Hurricanes and Highlanders, while the Crusaders and Chiefs have to travel to Wollongong and Townsville respectively.
The matches announced on Friday are for round three of the competition and replace the proposed Super Round which would have seen a full round of matches played at a single venue.
The round will kick off at McLean Park in Napier where the Hurricanes will host the Western Force on 28 May.
A blockbuster Saturday will see the Crusaders head to Wollongong to play the Waratahs, the Blues host the Brumbies at Eden Park, then the Chiefs play the Reds in the inaugural Super Rugby match at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville.
The Highlanders and Melbourne Rebels will finish the round with a Sunday afternoon kick-off on 30 May at a venue still to be finalised within the Highlanders region.
The remainder of the Trans-Tasman schedule remains unchanged from that announced last December with the tournament still scheduled to start on 14 May.
