The Kings have confirmed the appointment of former Lions coach Swys de Bruin for the duration of the Pro14 season.
It was confirmed earlier in the week that De Bruin and the Lions have parted ways on mutual terms after his seven-year stay at the Johannesburg-based union.
On Friday, the Kings announced that the 59-year-old De Bruin has joined the team as a coaching consulting and will work closely with Robbi Kempson, Vuyo Zangqa and Braam van Straaten.
De Bruin has already started work with his new team in preparation for the Kings’ upcoming five-game tour of Europe.
‘We are excited to have Swys de Bruin joining the Southern Kings as a coaching consultant,’ chairman Loyiso Dotwana said.
‘Swys is one of the most respected and sought-after coaches in South Africa. His vast knowledge of the game and international experience will be of great value to our team.
‘We are also confident that his input and contribution will be beneficial to our coaching team and the playing personnel. Swys’ philosophy is known to be that of producing attractive rugby which is in line with what we are set on achieving at the Kings.’
De Bruin’s most recent coaching jobs were as Springboks attack coach and Lions head coach, while he has previously worked at the Sharks, Griquas and with South Africa U20 side.
The Isuzu Southern Kings have acquired the services of widely sought-after coach, Swys de Bruin, as a coaching consultant.
