Outgoing Griquas captain Kyle Steyn, who has been recalled to the Scotland Sevens squad, also wants to play Test rugby for the country.
Steyn, who qualifies for Scotland through his Scottish-born mother, received a shock call-up to the sevens squad earlier this year and went on to play at the Las Vegas and Vancouver Sevens.
He has since confirmed signing a national sevens contract and will join the squad on 1 November in the buildup to the 2018-19 World Rugby Sevens Series, which kicks off in Dubai on 30 November.
But the 24-year-old centre has also set his sights on higher honours in Scotland.
‘I’m contracted to the sevens team, but hope to work my way into the 15-man code. My future lies in Scotland and I hope to make the best of this opportunity,’ Steyn told Netwerk24.
Steyn dismissed speculation that he has already agreed to a deal with the Glasgow Warriors, although he admits he is not averse to such a move.
‘In Scotland, they have a central contracting system, so I’m not tied to a [specific] team. But I do hope to get an opportunity to play for the Warriors.’
Steyn played for the Golden Lions at Craven Week and for Maties in the Varsity Cup before joining Griquas.
