Stats & Facts: Springboks vs Wallabies

Here are some stats and facts in preparation for the Rugby Championship clash between the Springboks and Wallabies in Brisbane on Saturday.

Facts and stats:

– Played 89, played 89, won 48, lost 38, drawn 3, points for 1759, points against 1578, tries scored 205, tries conceded 160, highest score 61 pts, biggest win 45 pts, win-rate 54%.

– The Springboks have played 15 Tests against Australia in Brisbane since 1956 and have won only three of those matches.

– The average score for the 15 Tests is 24-15 in favour of Australia.

– South Africa and Australia have met in nine Tests since the beginning of 2015, with those games decided by an average margin of six points per game; the Wallabies have picked up four wins and two draws in that stretch (L3).

– This will be the first time that Australia have faced South Africa twice within a span of eight days
since September 2010. The Wallabies have won the last two Tests against the Springboks when they’ve had a turnaround of fewer than 14 days.

– South Africa have conceded just 13 points in the final quarters of games thus far in the 2021 edition of the Rugby Championship, fewer than any other team in the competition; however, Australia have scored more points in this quarter (27) than they have in any other.

– Lood de Jager (South Africa) has won a competition-high 22 lineouts in the Rugby Championship in 2021, including three lineout steals; no other player has won more than 13 lineouts this campaign.

– Samu Kerevi (Australia) has made the most carries (40) and the most offloads (5) of any player in the Rugby Championship thus far in 2021 despite having played only two of the three possible Tests.

– The total Test caps for the Springbok starting line-up is 646.

– There are 258 caps in the backline with 388 caps among the forwards. On the bench there are a further 172.

– The average caps per player in the backline are 36 the forwards 48 while the players on the bench average 21.
