Dave Rennie would reconsider his future as Wallabies head coach if Raelene Castle were to get stood down as Rugby Australia’s chief executive.
Following the revelation of RA’s massive financial loss in 2019 and the dismal financial outlook for 2020 triggered by the coronavirus-enforced shutdown of rugby, Castle has been hit by widespread criticism.
It has started a major power struggle with Australian rugby, as many within RA now want to remove Castle from from the top job.
Reports: RA move to sack Castle
Castle appointed fellow Kiwi Rennie as Wallabies coach following the sacking of Michael Cheika and, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Rennie is prepared to walk out on the Test team without having coached one game if Castle gets the sack.
Rennie is currently in Scotland, fulfilling his contractual obligations with the Glasgow Warriors and is expected make the move to Australia later this year. But a source close to the three-time Vodacom Super Rugby coach confirmed he is not prepared to work under a different RA boss, since it was Castle who had convinced him to take the Wallabies job in the first place.
