Quade Cooper has signed a one-year contract with the Melbourne Rebels until the end of the 2019 season.
The Rebels announced the deal on Tuesday and confirmed that the 30-year-old will join their pre-season training in mid-November in preparation for next year’s Super Rugby campaign.
Since his return to Australia following a stint at Toulon in France, the mercurial flyhalf has been playing in the National Rugby Championship after coach Brad Thorn told him he is not required at the Reds.
‘I was really impressed seeing the improvement that Melbourne have made this year. Their professionalism since the first discussion we had about me being a Rebel has been first-class,’ said Cooper.
‘I know that rugby in Melbourne has a strong history and cultural connection. If I can help out the grassroots and be involved in inspiring the next generation, then that is just a bonus for me.’
Knowing that his move to the Rebels had been sealed, Cooper took to social media on Monday to share a thinly veiled message believed to be directed at Thorn.
