The Sharks are reportedly vying with a Japanese club to secure the services of Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard.

Pollard’s contract with Montpellier concludes at the end of the current 2021-22 European season.

An unconfirmed Japanese team and the Sharks are keen to acquire his services. While Rapport says there is a greater possibility that Pollard will play his rugby in Japan, the Sharks believe they can still persuade him to join their ranks.

“Well, maybe there is still hope that he will become a Shark,” a source told Rapport. “The Sharks are trying hard to get him.”

The Sharks are in the market for a flyhalf after losing Manie Libbok to the Stormers and Lionel Cronjé, who had to return to his Japanese club Toyota Verblitz.

Boeta Chamberlain has established himself as the Sharks’ first-choice flyhalf in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, with Curwin Bosch playing fullback.
