New Zealand Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson says that plans for a revamped Vodacom Super Rugby competition comprising Kiwi derbies could be revealed later in the week.
In the wake of the outbreak of Covid-19, Sanzaar followed the example set by other governing bodies around the world and suspended the tournament for the foreseeable future.
While the suspension is expected to last for longer than the rumored two weeks, there would still be the issue of how the competition would finish when it does resume.

Stormers coach John Dobson has spoken out about the disastrous financial implications the possible cancellation of this season could have on the sustainability of the competition in future. And now it appears the governing body Sanzaar and one of its members, New Zealand Rugby, are harbouring the same fears.
NZ Rugby and Sanzaar are working in tandem to come up with some rugby content to ward off financial meltdown.
Speaking on Sky Sport‘s The Breakdown show on Tuesday evening, Robinson said that NZ Rugby would be in a position to share the details of the plan before the week was over.
‘We’re quite excited about what we’re starting to develop with our Super clubs and Sky obviously heavily involved… this is a process which is quite complex and detailed,’ Robinson said.
‘We’d like to think by the end of the week we’d be in a position to share more detail. But it’s obvious it will be around a domestic-shaped competition and we’ve got around 10 to 12 weeks to provide some rugby product for our fans.’
The Highlanders are currently in self-isolation after returning from Argentina, but in theory the other four Kiwi franchises could be ready to play in three weeks’ time.
