Former Springbok fullback Percy Montgomery’s campaign won the Princess Charlene’s celebrity challenge drive in aid of charity amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa (PCMF South Africa) recruited various well-known personalities to help raise funds and contribute towards relief efforts in aid of those who are most vulnerable during the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic.
The charity drive initiative issued participants with the #StrongerTogether Celebrity Challenge which started on 26 May and ran until 16 June. Montgomery, Bryan Habana, Louis Oosthuizen and Gary Player all signed up for the challenge with Montgomery’s campaign ultimately winning. Over 45 charity organisations benefited from the initiative.

The ex-Bok fullback auctioned off the Test jersey he wore in the 2007 World Cup semi-final and as an added incentive he decided to throw in a two-night stay for two people at a luxurious penthouse in Camps Bay and a private tour of the Percy Montgomery rugby museum to the person with the winning bid.
PCMF South Africa director Chantell Wittstock lauded Montgomery’s efforts, saying he is a deserved winner.
‘Montgomery had an incredibly successful campaign attracting local and international media attention and raised an incredible amount from his personal items which he put up on auction. He was a great ambassador who jumped in with great enthusiasm and really got involved in his community, and for that, he is our deserved winner,’ Wittstock said.
