Lions fullback Tiaan Swanepoel has been ruled out for approximately eight to 10 weeks after suffering a leg fracture in their Rainbow Cup opener against the Bulls.
The 25-year-old was forced off the field early in their clash at Loftus Versfeld due to a lower-leg injury. The visitors would go on to lose the match 22-9.
On Monday, the Lions confirmed scans revealed Swanepoel had fractured his right fibula and will be out of action for up to two-and-a- half months.
Meanwhile, veteran loose forward Willem Alberts remains on the sidelines with a calf injury.
In more positive news for coach Ivan van Rooyen, front rowers Jaco Visagie and Ruan Dreyer have recovered from their respective injuries and are both available for selection.
