All Blacks coach Steve Hansen disapproves of the trial-by-social-media notion after claims that match officials missed incidents of foul play in the victory over the Springboks.
Captain Kieran Read, loosehead prop Joe Moody as well as Bok flank Pieter-Steph du Toit were seen to have committed illegal acts, with each incident having gone unpunished during the game.
With images of the acts of foul play having circulated on social media, the players in question avoided further sanctions from the citing commissioner post-game, with Hansen claiming that the matter should now be concluded.
‘You can go and get shots of anything you want to and create something,’ said the All Blacks mentor.
‘There’s a judicial system that’s been in place for a long time in rugby … we’re not judged by social media.’
Hansen admitted that neither he nor Bok coach Rassie Erasmus voiced any issues during their meeting with the citing commissioner, after the game had ended.
‘Social media is part of our society. I can’t worry about that. I can’t control what people put on it and I’m a great believer in that you worry about stuff you can control,’ added Hansen.
‘What people decide to put on social media doesn’t bother me a hoot.’
