Griquas coach Brent Janse van Rensburg will be leaving the union at the end of the Currie Cup season for a higher-level position.
Janse van Rensburg joined the Kimberley-based team last year on a three-year deal and coached the side to the Rugby Challenge title and Currie Cup playoffs in 2019.
However, the union confirmed on Wednesday that he will be leaving in search of a position at a larger union.
The Sharks are looking for a new head coach after a mutual parting of ways with Robert du Preez, while the Kings are also possibly still keeping their options open despite appointing high-performance director Robbie Kempson as their new head coach on an interim basis.
‘The Griquas feel that it is important for our stakeholders, management, players and supporters that we share with you for our sake of transparency and to avoid speculation, that our head coach Brent Janse van Rensburg will be leaving us at the end of the season for an opportunity at a higher level of the game,’ a statement by Griquas reads.
‘Where Brent will be going to will only be made public once the season has come to an end, as Brent is still processing the options available to him. The team will be focused on trying to finish our season strongly and business will go ahead as usual.’
A relatively young coach at 39 years old, Janse van Rensburg started his coaching career at the Stellenbosch Rugby Institute and Paul Roos Gimnasium. His first professional role came with the Border Bulldogs in 2008.
Janse van Rensburg has also served as Grey High School’s director of rugby as well as the Lions’ high-performance coach and head coach at the Kings and Pumas.
