Glasgow win big cross-conference battle

The Glasgow Warriors celebrate Glasgow win big cross-conference battle
Published on April 14, 2019

The Glasgow Warriors beat Leinster 39-24, while there were also Pro14 victories for the Scarlets, Connacht, Munster, Ulster, Ospreys and Cheetahs.

With the playoffs looming, Glasgow lead the way in Conference A, while Leinster have already wrapped up top spot in Conference B. So the result of this clash would have no serious impact on either side’s  season.

And yet Glasgow took great pride in defeating Leinster to end their unbeaten streak at RDS Arena and claim the label as trendsetters in the competition.

In a closely-fought first half, both teams scored two tries each but Glasgow took an 18-12 lead at the break thanks to two penalties.

The second half belonged to the visitors, who outscored Leinster three tries to two. All four of Leinster’s tries were scored by Rob and Dave Kearney. Incidentally, Glasgow also had a set of brothers, Zander and Matt, on their scoresheet.

The result leaves the Glasgow Warriors on 76 log points, three ahead of their nearest rivals Munster. Leinster sit on 75 points, 16 clear of the chasing pack in their conference.

Round 20 results:

Leinster 24 Glasgow Warriors 39
Scarlets 42 Zebre 0
Connacht 29 Cardiff Blues 22
Treviso 28 Munster 37
Edinburgh 7 Ulster 29
Cheetahs 38 Dragons 13
