Franco sounds alarm after SA tour humiliation

Coach Franco Smith admits the Glasgow Warriors were brutally exposed during their South African tour.

Having been hammered 52-14 by the Lions at Ellis Park, the Scottish club surrendered top spot on the Vodacom URC log to the Stormers with a 48-12 defeat in Cape Town on Saturday.

“The last thing I want to do is to make excuses in front of the media,” Smith after the game.

“This is the tough part of the season. We knew we’d have to redefine our form after the Six Nations.”

DOBBO: Focused Stormers stuck to plan

Glasgow arrived in Cape Town under pressure after their collapse in Johannesburg, but matters only worsened as the Stormers physically dominated the visitors and punished their mistakes ruthlessly.

“To come down here was always going to be tough. But this has happened at the right time for us. I think you can’t hide from the fact that there are one or two things that need to be adjusted.”

The former Springbok assistant coach also credited the South African teams for exposing Glasgow’s weaknesses with brutal efficiency.

“They are good teams. You give them a sniff; they take it away.

“I think we weren’t allowed to play the way we wanted to play in the last two weeks, and compliments to the South African game.

“So, it is what it is. I’m not going to make more of it. We were disappointing. We are disappointed.”
