Stormers coach Robbie Fleck believes they have the squad and management to get ‘back to the top’ in 2019.
The Cape franchise beat the Sharks 27-16 at Newlands on Saturday to finish a disappointing season with just six wins from 16 matches. They have failed to reach the quarter-finals and could yet finish at the bottom of the South African conference.
However, Fleck, who still has a year left on his contract, said he was confident they could turn things around.
‘We’ve got to put plans in place for 2019 and we’re obviously not happy with where we are, but there was a huge amount of lessons learned and we believe we’ve got the squad and the management to take this franchise back to the top. And that’ll be our motivation for next year.’

Fleck said the Stormers’ first-half performance against the Sharks had shown what the team is capable of.
‘We’ll look back at [the season] and regret losing against the Waratahs and the Sunwolves, and that Lions game [that they could have won].
‘Our execution and our finishing has let us down this year. It was good against the Sharks, especially in that first half.
‘We’ll start our review the week after next, that should take one or two weeks and we’ll see what happens.’
