Flank Pieter-Steph du Toit is reportedly set for a lucrative move away from the Stormers to an overseas club later this year.
Du Toit made his long-awaited return to action for the Stormers against the Sharks in their Rainbow Cup encounter at Cape Town Stadium yesterday after well over a year on the sidelines due to injury.
However, according to a report on Netwerk24, the 28-year-old World Cup winner will not be plying his trade for the Cape franchise for much longer.
Du Toit was initially set to sign a deal with Munster, but the high-profile move was blocked by the Irish Rugby Football Union. It is now believed he will leave Cape Town to instead join Japanese Top League side Toyota Verblitz after deciding against a contract renewal with the Stormers and Western Province.
If he was to leave later in the year, Du Toit will be the third World Cup-winning Springbok to exit the union after Siya Kolisi who now plays for the Sharks and Bongi Mbonambi who is Sharks-bound.
In more positive news for WP Rugby, and as reported by SARugbymag.co.za last Sunday, head coach John Dobson has agreed to a contract extension that’ll see him remain at the union until at least 2024, despite interest from English side Harlequins to lure him away.
WP are also in advanced talks with Dobson’s assistants Dawie Snyman and Norman Laker about contract extensions.
