Ireland-based flank Marcell Coetzee says he still has ambitions to play for the Springboks again.
Coetzee made 28 Test appearances between 2012 and 2015, but when he was omitted from then coach Heyneke Meyer’s World Cup squad, he signed a short-term contract with the Honda Heat in Japan before joining Irish province Ulster, where he has played for the past three years.
The 27-year-old has been in outstanding form for Ulster in the Pro14 and European Champions Cup this season and hopes it’ll be enough to earn him a Bok recall in the lead-up to the World Cup.
‘A lot can still happen before the World Cup, like injuries and new stars putting their hands up. But I believe Rassie knows what he wants and the current squad represents that,’ Coetzee told Netwerk24.
‘My passion to play for the Springboks will always burn and that motivates me to work harder and to improve every day.’
