A World Cup-winning Springbok has agreed to a contract extension that will have him remain at the Cheetahs until October 2022.
According to a report on OFM, Ruan Pienaar has signed on to stay at the Bloemfontein-based franchise for at least another year.
The scrumhalf, who has represented the Springboks in 88 Tests, joined the Cheetahs in 2019 after a nine-year stay in Europe where he played for Ulster and Montpellier.
‘Like you’ve seen with CJ [Stander] – retiring at 30, he says a rugby player will know when his time is finished and he has had enough. It probably came quite early in his career,’ Pienaar told OFM.
‘I’m quite a few years older than him, but I must say that I still enjoy waking up in the morning, training and all the challenges that come with preparing for games.
‘As long as I have that and still have the enjoyment factor, I will go as long as I possibly can.
‘Of course, you want to add value and still feel like when you play on a Saturday you are the best in your position.
‘As long as I’ve got those things in place and I still enjoy it, then hopefully I can carry on playing a little bit longer.’
