Hooker Schalk Brits is set to meet with Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus this week before making a final decision on his playing career.
Brits hung up his boots at the end of the European season, but quickly came out of retirement when Erasmus called him up to the Bok squad during the series against England.
The 37-year-old was selected in the match 23 for the third Test at Newlands and came off the bench early in the second half.
In an interview with Netwerk24, Brits said he is set to meet with Erasmus sometime this week to talk about prolonging his international career and the possibility of making South Africa’s 31-man squad for the World Cup.
‘I don’t have a solution for my situation yet, but in principle, it is unbelievable that Rassie has afforded me the opportunity to prove myself,’ said Brits.
Brits is set to start working at Reinet Investments in August, while furthering his studies at the University of Cambridge.
Those plans are still in motion, but Reinet has already indicated that it will allow Brits the opportunity to start with the company at a later stage if he wanted to continue playing.
