Bok injury worry as Glasgow topple Leinster

Franco Smith’s Glasgow Warriors underlined their Vodacom URC title credentials with a commanding win over Leinster at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday.

A blistering first-half display laid the platform for the 38-17 victory, with Glasgow running in four tries to seize control before shutting Leinster out after the break to complete a clinical performance.

In the end, the hosts outscored Leinster six tries to three.

Glasgow are top of the log with 49 points from 13 matches, while  Leinster remain fourth, level on points with the Stormers, who play the Dragons on Sunday.

There was also a concern for the Springboks, with Leinster lock RG Snyman forced off in the second half after a heavy collision, although he was able to leave the field on his feet.

Ill-discipline proved costly for the visitors in a chaotic opening half, as two yellow cards reduced them to 13 men – and Glasgow made them pay.

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when centre Rieko Ioane intercepted inside his own half and released winger Joshua Kenny, who finished in the corner.

But Leinster’s problems quickly mounted.

Lock Brian Deeny was sent to the sin bin, and Glasgow struck almost immediately, withNo 8 Macenzzie Duncan finishing off a quick-tap move before scrumhalf George Horne added the extras.

Moments later, hooker Rónan Kelleher followed Deeny to the bin, leaving Leinster down to 13.

Glasgow hooker Gregor Hiddleston powered over from a rolling maul before Horne crossed for his side’s third, finishing off slick backline interplay.

Wing Kyle Rowe then produced a moment of brilliance, chasing down his own kick and outpacing Ioane to secure the bonus-point try.

Leinster responded through fullback Hugo Keenan, but they still trailed 26-12 at half-time.

The visitors showed more intent after the restart, but Glasgow’s defence held firm, repeatedly shutting down attacking opportunities and dominating the breakdown.

Glasgow eventually struck again through winger Ollie Smith, who powered over after brushing off defenders, with Horne converting to extend the lead.

Replacement back Ciarán Frawley hit back for Leinster, but it proved too little, too late.
