Barrett’s season over

Crusaders captain Scott Barrett has been ruled out for the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa season due to a foot injury.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Crusaders confirmed Barrett ‘sustained significant injury to the structures supporting his big toe’ in an internal all-Crusaders training match in Christchurch on 13 June.

It was also confirmed the 26-year-old requires corrective surgery, having damaged the plantar fascia tendon in his foot.

‘After consultation with a foot specialist, it has been determined that Scott will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition to undergo surgery and allow sufficient time to recover. Exact return to play dates are uncertain at this stage,’ the Crusaders statement read.

Alex Ainley has joined the Crusaders squad as injury cover for the rest of the competition, and Codie Taylor will take over captaincy of the side for the remainder of the season.
