The independent investigation into the Ashwin Willemse incident has been extended by a week.
Willemse walked off the SuperSport set during a live discussion with Nick Mallett and Naas Botha after the Lions’ win against the Brumbies on 19 May. He accused the duo of undermining him.
After meeting with the trio two days later, SuperSport CEO Gideon Khobane said the incident had not been racially motivated.
However, SuperSport was still not able to resolve the issue internally and announced that an independent investigation, led by senior advocate Vincent Maleka, would take place.
While Maleka was asked to make findings and recommendations by Monday, 11 June, he has since asked SuperSport for more time as Willemse himself had yet to testify.
The broadcaster has agreed to give Maleka another week.
