The Six Nations clash between Wales and Scotland in Cardiff on Saturday has now been postponed in light of the evolving Covid-19 situation.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 4.15pm (South African time), was set to be the only Six Nations Test to take place this weekend.
England’s match against Italy in Rome and France’s clash with Ireland in Paris were both already postponed due to the coronavirus.
The Wales Rugby Union (WRU) announced on Friday afternoon that tomorrow’s match at the Principality Stadium will be postponed.
‘Whilst medical advice remains consistent, we have decided that it is in the best interests of supporters, players and staff to fall in line with recent measures taken across the UK and global sports industries,’ a statement from the governing body read.
‘Every effort has been made to stage this game and we appreciate that individuals will have been inconvenienced. Given the fluid and unprecedented nature of this issue a postponement became the only viable option.’
Following the suspension of the Pro14, the only professional top-flight leagues holding fixtures this weekend are the Premiership – with the Rugby Cup final between the Sale Sharks and Harlequins – and Vodacom Super Rugby.
Rugby Australia have already confirmed that Super Rugby fixtures from round eight on will be played behind closed doors, with the same happening with games taking place in Buenos Aires from this weekend.
