Jaguares bring in big guns

Emiliano Boffelli Robert du Preez
Published on June 20, 2019

The Jaguares have made 12 changes to their starting XV for Friday’s quarter-final against the Chiefs in Buenos Aires.

After resting several players for their last round-robin fixture against the Sunwolves last week, coach Gonzalo Quesada has recalled his star performers for the knockout match.

In a much-changed backline, Test-capped quintet Emiliano Boffelli (fullback), Jeronimo De La Fuente (centre), Matias Moroni (wing), Joaquin Diaz Bonilla (flyhalf) and Tomas Cubelli (scrumhalf) have all returned to the run-on side.

The pack has also been overhauled, with lock Guide Petti the sole survivor from last week’s starting forwards. Javier Ortega Desio, Marcos Kremer and Pablo Matera are back as the loose-trio combination, Tomas Lavanini joins Petti in the second row, while Santiago Medrano, Agustin  Creevy and Mayco Vivas make up the all-new front row.

Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Colin Cooper has opted for consistency in selection, making only one change to the match 23. Tumua Manu will start at outside centre, forcing Anton-Lienert Brown to shift to No 12 at the expense of Alex Nankivell.

Jaguares – 15 Emiliano Boffelli, 14 Sebastian Cancelliere, 13 Matias Orlando, 12 Jeronimo De La Fuente (c), 11 Matias Moroni, 10 Joaquin Diaz Bonilla, 9 Tomas Cubelli, 8 Javier Ortega Desio, 7 Marcos Kremer, 6 Pablo Matera, 5 Tomas Lavanini, 4 Guido Petti, 3 Santiago Medrano, 2 Agustin  Creevy, 1 Mayco Vivas.
Subs: 16 Julian Montoya, 17 Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, 18 Enrique Pieretto, 19 Tomas Lezana, 20 Francisco Gorrissen, 21 Felipe Ezcurra, 22 Domingo Miotti, 23 Santiago Carreras.

CHIEFS: 15 Solomon Alaimalo, 14 Shaun Stevenson, 13 Tumua Manu, 12 Anton Lienert-Brown, 11 Sean Wainui, 10 Jack Debreczeni, 9 Brad Weber, 8 Pita Gus Sowakula, 7 Sam Cane (c), 6 Lachlan Boshier, 5 Tyler Ardron, 4 Brodie Retallick, 3 Angus Ta’avao, 2 Nathan Harris, 1 Atu Moli.
