Former Bok coach Heyneke Meyer has signed a two-year extension to his contract with Stade Français.
Initially contracted until 2020, Meyer will stay on for a further two seasons. Stade owner Hans-Peter Wild has also committed himself to investing €100-million on the team over the next five years.
Wild, a billionaire who made his fortune through a food and drinks company, took over the club in 2017, hiring Meyer as their director of rugby at the beginning of 2018. Despite signing international stars such as Nicholas Sanchez and Gael Fickou, Stade have yet to make the playoffs under Wild’s ownership.
‘I think I’m going to put in another €100-million for the next five years,’ Wild told French broadcaster Canal+ on Sunday. ‘There are some who aren’t playing and there are good reasons why they don’t play, if they don’t like what the coach does, then go and find another team.
‘It’s unacceptable that people complain in public to the press. It’s an expensive professional sport and they have to behave professionally, they have to learn that.’
